ATOMIC LOLLIPOP 2011 RECAP
What an incredibly crazy, amazing, wonderful, RIDICULOUS weekend! Thank you ALL for making this a dream come true! We’re stoked to have so many awesome new friends (anime fans, ravers, circus peformers artists and adventurers alike) and SO happy that Atomic Lollipop’s first year was a hit!
From Bespa Kumamero plowing down the convention hallways in a GIANT TANK, to everyone’s favorite Mortal Kombat character spinning fire and setting off impromptu bombs on the C3 stage, a steamy Batman Burlesque show (shout outs to catwoMAN), a pillow fight that quickly hoodwinked the bouncy cosplay boxing ring, impromptu inflatable flamingo hallway raves, and the ROWDIEST panels we’ve ever seen (Di** or No Di**, we’re looking at you!)- this was a weekend for the ages and a convention FIRST!
You guys really warmed up to the fact that spending money wasn’t the main attraction- con-goers were too busy learning to DJ, spin fire, bellydance, crochet, throw a party, or make their very own Domo-kun- to stay in any one place for long! For that reason, we’re going to be amping up the programming offering next year- with even MORE contests, gameshows, workshops, and excuses to dance your ass off!
We didn’t reach our attendance cap, but with 996 otaku coming out for our FIRST YEAR, you can BET we’ll be bringing it back again for 2012 with TWICE the rowdiness and general ridiculosity!!
Be on the look-out next year for more come and go as-you-please hallway activities (crocheting, plushy construction, origami, kandi bracelet, button making, lots of tinkering and MORE), some nostalgia goggles-approved ‘90s programming (POGs and tamagotchi tournaments, anyone?), cosplay DODGEBALL and- dare I say- POKEMON BURLESQUE?
